What is a JAV code?
A JAV code (品番 / hinban in Japanese) is the "ID number" of every JAV release. Just as a book has an ISBN and a retail product has a barcode, every title is assigned a unique code by its studio at release.
The code’s main value is uniqueness: the same title may appear on different platforms under different translated names, but if the code matches, it is the same work. That is why experienced viewers usually quote the code rather than the title.
How a code is structured
A standard code is usually a two-part "letters + hyphen + number" structure, for example ABCD-123:
- Letters: the studio, or a specific series / label under it.
- Number: the sequential number within that series — a higher number usually means a later release.
For example, in "SSIS-698", "SSIS" is a series code from the major studio S1, and "698" is the 698th title in that series. Some platforms drop the hyphen and write "SSIS698" — it means the same title. Case and hyphenation usually do not affect search results.
Common studio reference table
Below is a quick reference of well-known, easily recognised studios and their representative codes. Note this is a "common", not exhaustive, list, and codes are updated across generations:
| Code | Studio / label | Style |
|---|---|---|
| SSIS / SONE | S1 NO.1 STYLE | One of the largest labels in the industry, known for its high-profile cast. |
| MIDV | MOODYZ | A long-established major studio covering a wide range of genres. |
| IPX / IPZZ | IDEA POCKET | Polished productions built around solo actresses. |
| ABW | PRESTIGE | A general studio balancing themed projects and solo works. |
| JUL / JUQ | MADONNA | Focused on married-woman and mature themes. |
| STARS | SOD (SOFT ON DEMAND) | A large general studio with many themed projects. |
| CAWD | kawaii | A fresh, youthful style direction. |
| FSDSS | FALENO | A studio that has risen to prominence in recent years. |
| ADN | ATTACKERS family | Known for drama-oriented works. |
| PRED | PREMIUM | Mainly solo-actress projects. |
| DASS | Das! | A general themed-project studio. |
Special types of codes
FC2-PPV (individual / amateur works)
FC2-PPV is followed by a longer string of digits (for example FC2-PPV-1234567). These are works listed by individual sellers on the FC2 platform — mostly amateur or personal projects, without a traditional major studio behind them.
Numbering for uncensored works
Studios that produce natively uncensored works (such as Caribbeancom, 1pondo or HEYZO) often use a "release date" or their own in-house numbering, for example a date-based format like "010124-001", which differs from the traditional letter-code system.
Compilations and best-of collections
Some codes represent a compilation or best-of collection; the title often contains the word "BEST", meaning it bundles multiple segments rather than being a single work.
Using codes to find videos
Once you know the code, type the full code into the MissTK search box (for example "SSIS-698") to jump straight to that title. If you cannot remember the full code, entering just the studio prefix (for example "MIDV") will also list related works in that series, so you can browse content from the same label.
FAQ
The code and the title differ — which is reliable?
The code. Titles may be translated or written differently across platforms, but the code is the unique identifier assigned by the studio: if the code matches, it is the same work.
What if a code returns no results?
The title may not be indexed yet, or the code may be mistyped. Watch out for the digit 0 versus the letter O; letter case and hyphenation usually do not affect search.
Why does one code have different quality versions?
A code represents the work itself. The same work may be released in different qualities such as FHD or 4K, but the code stays the same.
